Fox News and McDonalds doing business
In recent news it has unrevealed that the Fox News Station has signed a product placement agreement with McDonalds stating that there will be coffee cups from the fast food chain on the news anchors desks at all times.
Their affiliate anchors, KVVU which is located in Las Vegas will be sitting with a cup of iced coffee from McDonalds on their desk for the next 6 months as process of their new promotional campaign. Fox has stated that this relationship is simply to generate income to help support their advertising costs and it will not affect the content of the channel in any way.
KVVU’s news director, Adam Bradshaw stated that he would not be willing to use product placement on the flagship news shows – being his 5pm, 10pm slots or any other hard newscasts.
Being one of the first news stations to use product placement you can expect to see the competition strengthen as other stations follow suit, other Meredith stations may use product placement in the near future to bring in more revenue to help with advertisement costs.
It has been noted that if the show receives any negative comments about McDonalds then the cups will be removed instantly, the account supervisor of Omnicom who brokered the deal stated this to both parties.
McDonalds have said that this type of product placement is just another method to reach targeted customers showing that their drinks are in the perfect surroundings on the morning shows as it’s the natural environment for this type of drink.
While their cups are always displayed on screen you will never see the presenters touch them in any way, this is to reduce the amount of complaints the show may receive and for the fact that they are filled with fake coffee.
