Nike’s Air Stab brand to be taken off shelves

Submitted by admin on July 18, 2008 – 4:10 pmNo Comment

The addition to Nike’s footwear range known as Air Stab which were released 2 years ago as a limited edition has now been removed from stock and is no longer available through the official Nike website.  You will be still able to pick them up from retailers until they are sold out but a Nike spokesperson claimed that is was an unfortunate with the recent knife crime events going off but they would not want to promote the use of knives.

Hannah Daws from Crimestoppers stated that it’s a company’s responsibility to portray a good image when it comes to marketing and they couldn’t believe that Nike has been so naive to name brands such as Air Stab and Pocketknife.  There are hundreds of other companies who name their products to create certain images, regardless if they represent a negative one.

While Pocketknife, a range in their all weather gear is still on sale, the final decision came 11 days after one of Nike’s stores was victim to knife crime in London’s West End.  Two security guards were attacked and stabbed in the attempt to stop shop lifters, none were seriously injured but they both received sufficient knife wounds in their back and legs.

It just goes to show that people are carrying knifes at all times and are prepared to use them in any situation, regardless of age.

With the gun and knife crime on the rise further action has to be taken, retailers need to be very careful and sensitive when marketing a range of products, especially aimed at the younger generation.  This year London alone has seen 53 people stabbed resulting in death – often including teenagers.

We can expect to see this knife crime epidemic to rise in the future as it shows no intention of slowing down in any way.
