Consumer discount websites’ growth spurt in economic slowdown
Consumer discount websites are benefiting from the economy crisis. They are amongst the fastest growing websites in the UK, with five of the top ten being money-saving, classified and shopping sites.
Businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to pedal through the economic slowdown, as are consumers, which is why they are increasingly seeking out discount sites.
According to Nielsen Online’s top 10 fastest-growing websites, MyVoucherCodes and Fair Exchange (coupon/reward sites) are thriving, as well as FindStuff (shopping comparison site) and Trovit (classified site for jobs, cars, and homes) Internet analyst at Nielsen Online, Alex Burmaster explains the shift in web traffic trends, “Sites are tapping into consumer concerns about the economy, giving them the opportunity to save money, dominate the fastest growing list.”
Joining the UK top ten is Walkers Snack Foods. They have enjoyed substantial gains in their conversion rates thanks to it’s Brit Trips campaign, offering discounts on UK trips – from British holidays to hotels and restaurants. It’s growth has exceeded 2,575%, increasing users from 17,000 in June 2007, to 444,000 recorded in June 2008.
Google Maps is the UK’s fastest growing website with a 57% increase of unique users, followed by YouTube, with a 52% increase.
