BBC’s Attempt To Cut Costs
BBC’s Attempt to Cut Costs
The BBC has decided to take action and reduce the pay of their top presenters by 25% in their cost cutting measures to save money. This is in aid of trying to save £2.15billion by the year 2013, all of their TV and radio staff who earn more than £100,000 a year will get this reduction when they come to renew their contract new year.
Jonathan Ross, who’s yearly contract is said to be worth £6million (£18million over 3 years) will be hit with a reduction of £1.5million each year. Jonathan Ross has only returned to his usual show last week after his 3 month ban has expired for the prank call he and Russell Brand did to the Faulty Towers actor, Andrew Sachs. He has already been the topic of conversation about an alleged claim to having sex with an elderly woman on his Radio Two Show.
Some of the other household names that will be affected are Terry Wogan, Graham Norton, Chris Moyles, Barbara Windsor and many more. To put this into figures Chris Moyles would receive a £158,000 cut from his £620,000 a year salary whilst Terry Wogan will lose £200,000 from his £800,000 salary.
Although the 25% cut only applies for people that are earning over £100,000 a year, the presenters who earn less will still face a reduction of 15% on their salary which also will be effective from next year when they come to renew their contracts with the BBC.
The BBC has also cut their top 400 managers bonuses and wages which has made them a saving of around £20million already. This all comes around the day after the BBC signed their deal to show Match of the Day exclusively until 2013 which has been said to be worth £171million.
