With the economy as it is, larger companies are finding it hard to reach new targets and overtake their competition and hold the largest market share of their industry. Statistics have suggested that after a number of Morrisons marketing campaigns it has secured them being the Christmas favourite supermarket taking their market share to 11.9%.
You can expect more competition amongst the rivals as Tescos leading position is now at threat as Sainsburys has already beaten them in like for like sales figures as they suddenly rose by 4.5%.
Morrisons have revealed that in the last quarter of 2008 they saw a rise of 8.1% in sales mainly due to the pricing deals they held which were advertised all over the TV running up to Christmas targeting the cost conscious shoppers.
One of their most clever marketing tactics was to give customers £20 cash back on their bill if they managed to spend £40 a week in shopping for 4 weeks. Most families took advantage of that as times are hard in the economical slide.
The status of the UKs depression will be announced this coming Friday after the statistics from the final quarter of 2008 are collected, analysed and revealed. Experts have suggested that they expect retail sales to slow down dramatically as people are not prepared to indulge in non essential items.
Despite the country wide depression, Wetherspoon has been continuing to grow and have reported a 1.5% rise in sales. This is mainly due to the reason that people have become cost aware and began dining out at the cheaper options opposed to the higher market restaurants.
It was also reported that their rival, Punch Taverns have not been in the same situation and claimed a 12% fall in their like for like sales.
