Submitted by admin on January 23, 2009 – 4:40 pmNo Comment

Top Gears professional driver, known as The Stig is one of the most talked about events recently as a number of newspapers have suggested the true identity of the mysterious driver.  The character is one of the main parts of the TV show Top Gear as he/she never speaks or removes their plain white suit and helmet, The Stig has also been used in a number of recent marketing campaigns in an attempt to increase their viewers.

It has not been confirmed by the BBC whether or not the accusations are correct, the Star has claimed that the true identity of The Stig is the former American speedway driver Ben Collins.  He has also recently been the driving stunt double for the new James Bond movie.

A number of other newspapers and online media sources are following up the story across the globe.  To date, this is the second time that The Stigs identity has been revealed.  The original black suited Stig was named Perry McCarthy, a former Formula One driver.  He was fired from the BBC when he revealed his identity in his autobiography Flat Out, Flat Brokeî back in 2002.

Since then there have been rumours from fans suggesting that it could be another well known Formula One driver such as Damon Hill.

Its safe to say that BBC members of staff are annoyed that the identify of this beloved character has been outed, one person actually said “You wouldnít write a piece saying that Santa doesnt exist” The unveiling of The Stig came around after Collins attended a photo shoot for ‘The Stig in action’ and stating who he was.  A builder in Bristol also claimed that he has seen the unique white suit and helmet in Collins house.
