Facebook Is The UK’s Most Search For Brand

Facebook was names as the most searched for brand during the last part of 2008, receiving 52 per cent more searches, than second-place YouTube.

The results released by Internet traffic analyst Hitwise, found that one in every 42 Internet searches in the UK included Facebook, the most popular social networking site on the web.

The report covered the first 12weeks from January 3 and found that Facebook was included in 2.39 per cent of searches and has become the second most visited sites after Google.

YouTube followed with 1.57 per cent ad eBay at 1.25 per cent.

Robin Goad, Hitwise research director, said the results show the growing popularity and use of social networking sites in the UK.

“Only search engines receive more UK Internet visits than social networks,” he said.

“During February 2009,social networks received 13.1 per cent more UK Internet visits than online retail websites, and 27.9 per cent more than adult websites, which they overtook in September 2008.”

The BBC is the only one that is non-internet specific with iPlayer its most popular sub-brand.

Hitwise believe that, together with the position of YouTube, these results illustrate the growing popularity of video.
