Bebo’s mission to prove social media as effective advertising medium

Mark Charkin, marketing Chief at Bebo stated at today’s Internet Advertising Bureau Engage conference that Social Media needs to do more to prove it can offer returns on investment.   He stated that Bebo is exploring more ways to provide advertisers with information on the effectiveness of campaigns and how to amplify the content elsewhere.

He says: “The tools available on Bebo enable more advertising needs to be met and reach out to a younger demographic audience. We have changed the way youth communicate from traditional e-mails and text messaging to real-time banter online. ”

He points to its most recent series, The Gap Year, which incorporated product placement. Sony used the show to promote the PSP by showing viewers how to use it to take pictures. He adds: “Not only did this get 500,000 views, but we saw 70% of those people taking part in PSP-related polls and talking about it on the show’s profile.”

“We would like to extend on this and work with brands in more and more innovative, yet unobtrusive ways.”

Branded keyword searches used by 88% of traffic

Broad, generic internet searches have been replaced by brand name searches.

Experian’s research revealed that branded keywords now represent 88% of all internet searches. Research director of Hitwise (part of the Experian group), Robin Goad explained: “Before Google’s trademark changes, sites had to rely on effective search engine optimisation to pick up large volumes of traffic.

Mothercare steps up it’s SEO marketing with Search Works

Knol to rival Wikipedia

The well known online encyclopaedia Wikipedia has now got competition as Google prepares to launch a brand new service called Knol. Knol will be written by people who are experts in their chosen field providing people with useful information that is up to date. The main difference between Wikipedia and Knol is the fact that people will be recognised and praised for their submission to Knol – each article will include a named byline so they can be recognised for their efforts opposed to remaining anonymous as in Wikipedia.

.me top level domains on sale today!

Going on sale today at 4pm are the new top level domains known as the .me extension, originally designed because Montenegro became independent in June 2006 you can be sure to see a rush in domain sales over the next few days. The Montenegro government stated that due to the worldwide appeal the extension has they have decided to use the .me extension as a generic name so that everyone can benefit from it without suffering a loss when it comes to optimisation.
